**REMEMBERING JERRY GARNER**
As many of you know by now, our good friend Jerry Garner passed away December 27, 2011 as a result of a gunshot wound. Those of us who knew him had many great times cruisin with Brenda and him. I'll always remember the good times we had, and there were a lot of them. Although they had moved to Texas over a year ago, we still feel the great loss of a great man and good friend. Jerry will cruise with us in our hearts always. Our thoughts and prayers are with Brenda and their family in this time of grief. Brenda intends to bring his ashes back to Colorado at some time in the future.

NEXT MEETING:

We will not have a meeting in Sept. The next meeting will be in Oct. and we will have elections at that time, please give some thought to who you might want to nominate for officers.

NEXT CRUISE NIGHTS:

The last Charcoal Burger Cruise night of the year is coming up on Sept. 9. It seems hard to believe it is already almost over for the year. Hope you can join us for the last one, the cruise nights have been great this summer with more cars and we have gotten quite a few new members as a result of the cruises.

OUR OWN CRUISE NIGHTS:

Even though the Charcoal Burger cruises are ending we will continue our everyother Friday cruises, Our cruise will be at the Charcoal Burger on Sept. 23. and we will continue to meet for cruise nights every other Friday from here on out throughout the year.

A BIG THANKS TO MIKE & NANCY DUFFY AND STEVE & KRISTY CARVER:

This past month we had a great BBQ at the home of Mike and Nancy Duffy. There were almost 30 members who showed up to see Kim and Augie Reno, Kim has not been able to join us for our events and this was a great chance for the members to catch up with her. We had a great time and the food was excellent, the BBQ was completely catered by Steve Carver at no cost to the club. You could not have asked for a better night, and I hope all who attended had a good time, I know Berdean and I did. Again a big thanks to these guys, they really went beyond expectations to make the night special.

MEMBERS WIN AT SEVERAL SHOWS IN AUGUST:

We attended several shows this past month and several members came away with awards.

First the Garfield County Fair show in Rifle we had several winners. Congratulations to Wes and Deb Gore, John and Nan Sowieja, Cecil and Betty Waldron, all took top 20 awards, and Lane and Pam Luaguesen took best of show.

At the Leadville Boom Days Show Vonda Williams took Ladies Choice and Big Steve took best of show.

Finally at the Palisade Show Big Steve took 1
st place in his class and also was voted Peoples Choice. And believe it or not, yours truly actually tied for 2nd place in class!

CALENDARS ARE AVAILABLE:

For those of you who still want to get a car club calendar I have them available for $15.00 each. They go from August 2011 to December 2012. Please let me know if you would like to purchase one and I will make arragements to get it to you.

WEBSITE REMINDER:

Please remember our website valleycruisers.org We are always in need of updated pictures, some of you have sent in pictures and we appreciate it. You can send the pictures to Darla at her listed email address. Also you can place for sale or wanted items on the site at any time. Please try to use the site to your benefit.

PIN UP GIRLS AND ROCK-A-BILLY EVENT:

On Saturday Sept. 17, 2011 there will be an event with the Roaring Fork Pin up Girls and classic cars, and several live bands will perform. The event will take place at Two Rivers Park in Glenwood and will start at 2 p.m. Thru 8p.m. The Pin up girls would like to take pictures with some of the cars and they want to dress the match the cars. If you would like to bring your car for the event please let me know what car you will be bringing and the color, etc. so I can coordinate with the pin up girls ahead of time so they can match their dress to the car. Let me know as soon as possible as this will probably take some time to coordinate with them. Call me 970-945-1008. Several of us attended a Pin up event in Carbondale this past Friday and found the girls to be very willing to work with us and be careful of the cars. I have told them that in order for us to bring cars we need to have a place for the cars to park away from door dingers, and they have no problem providing this.

UPCOMING SHOWS:

There are several shows still coming up the first will be Sept. 10 and 11 at the Eagle Airport and Vail. It is the wheels and wings show, I have heard they have about 100 cars already signed up. I plan to go to this show, if any of you are going and are interested in cruising together please let me know. Call me at 970-945-1008. For information you can call Doug at 970-376-1299.The Burning Mountain Festival Car Show will also take place on Saturday Sept. 10, 2011. If you want to be in the parade you should line up at the public works building no later than 9a.m. The car show will take place downtown New Castle after the parade. For more information you can call Krista De Herrera phone 970-309-6214. for you who get the newsletter by email I am attaching a copy of the registration form for you.

The Downtown Grand Junction show is coming up on Sept 24, this is always a good show and many of the members attend the show. This year there is also a cruise through the Colorado National Monument on Friday Sept, 23. If you can make the show it should be a good one again.

Finally the Cedaredge Show is Oct. 1 , this is the last show locally that I know of for the season and it usually is a nice show with normally good weather, that is no guarantee however!! We will probably try to set up a cruise to this show as well so if you are interested in going please let me know.

I hope all of you had a great summer, I know a lot of you got ou t with your cars at the shows and cruises and enjoyed yourselves and looking at all the cars. It is hard to believe the summer is coming to a close already, I hope we have a very nice fall so we can continue to cruise

During the year we have instituted new events and tried to incorporate suggestions from the members to make the club more fun and viable. We are always wanting new suggestions as to what we can do to make the club work for all the members. Please let me know if you have any ideas you think we should look at doing for the coming year.

We will have Augie and Kim Reno as our guests of honor since we were unable to give them a proper send off when they moved. I hope many of you will be there to enjoy a great BBQ meal and good times with your friends.

CALENDARS ARE DONE AND NOW AVAILABLE:
Thanks to Harry Bentzler we have the calendars done and they are available to purchase. The cost is a little less than we originally thought they would be. They are $15.00 each. We have an unlimited supply so we can get as many as we need. Please let me know if you'd like to have one or more and I'll get them to you. Call me at 970-945-1008.

MEMBERS WIN AWARDS AT SEVERAL CAR SHOWS:
This past month several of our members won awards at the many shows around the area. Starting with the Gypsum Show, congratulations to Vonda Williams, Don Paulin, Chuck Norton, Cliff Herrington, Cecil Waldron, and Augie Reno. All of their cars won top 20 awards with Cliff getting the Fire Dept. award. Augie also swept the major prizes they had, he won both prizes in a drawing. Then the next weekend several members cruised to the car show in Delta. Congratulaltions to Augie Reno, Cecil Waldron, and Don Paulin, they all won awards.

GRAND RIVER CLASSIC CAR AND MOTORCYCLE SHOW:
I want to first thank all of you who helped and attended our show this past weekend, it's only with the participation of the members that we can be successful, and though there were some glitches I believe our first collaboration with the Downtown car show and Silt Heyday car show was successful. I especially want to thank Cathy Queen, Angie Herringtion, Debbie Baker, and Berdean Madsen, they were able to take a less than well planned registration system and make it work. I know it was frustrating but they did a great job!

We started out Friday Cruise Night at the Charcoal Burger with almost 60 cars, many of which took a cruise through downtown Glenwood. It was a great way to let people see the cars and attract more interest in the car show. After the cruise, all participants were treated to a great BBQ at the Charcoal Burger, courtesty of Bart Victor. We had music, good food, great conversation, and lots of cool cars!

Saturday the show drew approximately 80 to 90 cars and motorcycles that filled the streets with cool rides from all over the western slope and even from out of state. We want to congratulate Ron Arbaney as his Indian motorcycle took one of the awards picked by independent motorcycle judges. Also, congratulations to Richard and Vicky Nash. Their Shasta travel trailer won the People's Choice award.

Thanks to Harry and Lori Bentzler for all the work they put into the poker run. A few folks enjoyed a cruise through the countryside around Harvey Gap and back. Several cars took part in the Bike Nite at the Meadows. Congratulations to Augie Reno, his 37 Chevy won favorite car. He took home a great and heavy trophy! Also, Ron Arbaney won with his Indian motocycle again! That makes twice in one day, way to go Ron!!

Sunday morning we had approximately 20 to 25 cars join the the cruise from Glenwood to Silt for the Silt HeyDay Show.  Bart provided a continental style breakfast to all participants and theshow drew some 60 to 70 cars. Congratulations to Darryl Queen, his motorcycle won an award at this show.

As you can see it was quite a busy and fun weekend! The weather was great the entire time and most of our members were able to participate in at least parts of it. I hope all of you enjoyed it. Please make note of any changes you feel we could make to improve the show for the coming years.

NEW MEMBERS:
We want to welcome a couple of  new members to the club. Jamii and Hope Bentzler, from Silt, who own a 1957 Chevy, and Dave Ogren, from Carbondale, and his 1969 El Camino. We hope they enjoy their time with the club and go cruising with the rest of us.

I'm going to include an application form in the newletter from now on in the event you have someone interested in joining you can print one and give it to them. That should help recruit new members! Application can be accessed at the end of the newsletter.

REQUEST FOR MORE PICTURES AND INFORMATION FOR THE WEBSITE:
We need updated pictures of cars and events for the web site. If you have any pictures you want on the site, please email them to Darla at darljene@comcast.net . Also, if you had vehicles placed on the "For Sale" page, let her know if there are any changes to be made.

I urge all of you to check the website from time to time, the address
is
www.valleycruisers.org. Thanks!

UP COMING SHOWS:
Next Saturday, August 6, 2011 will be the Garfield County Fair Car Show. If you want to participate in the parade as well you need to show up at the Rifle Police Dept. parking lot no later than 9:30 a.m. Some of our members are plannng to attend this show. On Saturday morning, July 30, we'll begin parking and registering cars at 7 a.m. If you didn't preregister you can still register cars the day of the show. The cost for the show is as follows: both Glenwood Show and Silt Heydays show is one charge of $30.00 per car. If you are going to only do one or the other, the cost is $20.00 per car for the Glenwood Show Club members will be eligible to win awards if you've paid the registration. If you only want to display the car we can do that as well.
After the car show we are sponsoring a poker run. It will leave downtown Glenwood at 4p.m. And will end at the Bike Nites at the Meadows in Glenwood around 6p.m. The organizers of the Bike Nites are going to allow the cars to be displayed free of charge. There will be live bands playing and plenty of food and good times so I hope many of you will be able to go. Please tell your friends they are welcome to participate even if they're not members of the Club.
Sunday morning July 31, we'll leave the Charcoal Burger at 8:30a.m. and cruise to Silt where there will be a free breakfast for participants. The Silt Car Show will take place the rest of the day until about 4p.m.
There's plenty of things going on during the weekend so make plans to get out and enjoy all the activities!
By now I hope all of you have gotten your posters up in your areas, we're still looking for more door prizes as well as trophy sponsors at $50.00 each. If any of you know of any businesses who would be willing to donate either one,  please get with them right away.
We are also looking for judges to pick the top 20 awards. If you know anyone who is not affilliated with the club who would like to help judge, please let me know.
A BIG THANKS TO DARRYL AND CATHY:
On June 21, 2011 Darryl and Cathy Oueen opened their home for a club BBQ to welcome Jerry and Brenda Garner back home, if only for one night. Those of you who attended know what a nice time it was, Jerry and Brenda were quite appreciative and we had good food, good friends and an overall good time. Again, a big thanks to Darryl and Cathy.
REDSTONE RALLY:
Our first time attending the Redstone Rally was a success. We had approximately 17 cars on display during the day. Our club took over the parking lot at the Hightower Cafe, we played rock & roll music and had a good time. Andy the pin striper showed up and several of our members were able to add stripes to their rides. The weather could not have been better and all in all the day was a success. I hope we can do it again next year.
NEW CASTLE DINER ANNIVERSARY:
The day after the Redstone rally, several of our members attended the first anniversary of the New Castle Diner. The diner provided the parking area for the old cars and there was a live band. Again, the weather was almost perfect for the cruise in.
CHARCOAL BURGER CRUISE NIGHTS:
As a reminder, the next cruise nights for the Charcoal Burger are July 15, July 29(our car show cruise night), August 12, August 26, and Sept. 9. The cruises have been very well attended and many cars we have'nt seen before have been showing up. We've also been able to sign up several new members as a result of the cruise nights. I hope you can attend some of these cruise nights. It's a great time to show off your ride and meet old and new friends as well!
CRUISE TO GYPSUM CAR SHOW:
We'll meet at the Glenwood City Market at 7 a.m. to cruise to the car show in Gypsum on July 16. We're meeting a little early because of the construction in Glenwood Canyon. It slows things down a bit.
CALENDAR UPDATE:
I know it seems like this is taking a long time to finish but we're almost there! We finally have all the pictures for the calendar. Harry will be putting it together and start printing this month. If you want more than one calendar, please let me know how many. It will be an 18 month calendar and will cost around $22.00 each. You can email me or call me at 970-945-1008. If you already placed your order with me previously, those will be orderd automatically. If there are any changes, be sure to let me know.
NEW MEMBERS:
As I said earlier, we have several new members who have joined the club in the last month or so. We want to welcome Doug Britt, who owns a 1966 corvette,  Michael Whiddon, who has a Viper, and Dave and Shirley Lawson, who have two Mustangs, and a Torino Talledega. We hope they'll be able to cruise with us and enjoy their time with the club members and our activites during the year.
RIFLE WAL-MART CAR SHOW:
The Rifle Walmart would like to do a show in August, probably August 13. I'm not sure about this yet but I wanted to let you know well in advance so you can make plans. I'll get more information to you as I get it.

As you can see we're well into our summer activities and there are plenty more to come. I hope you're able to participate in some of these activities and cruises. This is the best time of year to get our cars out to show them off and just enjoy them!

NEXT CRUISE NIGHTS:

The new season of Charcoal Burger Cruise nights has begun. June Cruise nights are set for June 17. The next ones are July 1, 15, and 29, which is the cruise night for our show in Glenwood. I have attempted to send the entire cruise schedule in a separate email to you who receive email newsletters. Hope you can make some of these cruises. We also decided at the last meeting to not have any breakfast cruise getogethers until October.

CAR SHOW UPDATE:

Before you know it we will be having our show in Glenwood, we need volunteers to place posters in businesses in your area and also to contact your area businesses to get either donations for door prizes and/or items to place in the goody bags. Please contact these people soon to get these items so we will know what we have. We want the posters in place no later than June 20
th, if you need posters pleasecontact me at 970-945-1008. We also need people to hand out cards on the stops during the poker run on Saturday after the Show and Shine in Glenwood. If you would like to volunteer your time, please contact me or Harry. We still need trophy sponsors of $50.00 per trophy. I included the sponsor donation form in last month's newsletter. If you didn't get one, please let me know. We need to know about door prizes, trophy sponors, and goody bag items by July 1st. As I've said before,  the show can only be successful with everyones help. Please contact me if you have questions or concerns.

REDSTONE RALLY:

Just a reminder: Saturday, June 25, 2011 at Redstone -  the club has donated $300.00 for space to display our vehicles at the Hightower Cafe in Redstone in conjunction with the big Redstone Rally. This rally is mostly for motorcycles, however, this year they are including cars and have asked us to come and spend the day in Redstone. There will be music, food, a poker run and much more. It would be great to see a lot of club member's cars on display there. Also if you know someone who would like to bring a car but is not a member they would be welcome as well. We'll start parking cars between 8 and 9 a.m. It should be a fun time!

FRUITA CAR SHOW:

Congratulations to Big Steve, his Willis pick up won a top 20 award at Mike's Headless Chicken Car Show this past month.

THANKS TO HARRY AND LORI:

Some of you were able to join us for the May BBQ at Harry and Lori's last month. It was a great day for a BBQ and Harry and Lori went the extra step to welcome all who came. We were also able to get some great shots of the cars for the upcoming calendar. Harry is working on getting the calendar put together and printed. If you were at the BBQ your car will definitely be on the calendar, those of you who gave us pictures to use last year for the calendar will also be included as long as we have the space. If your car doesn't get in this time, it will be the first in line for the next one. We plan on continuing to have calendars made each year.

NEW MEMBER INFORMATON:

We have quite a few new members in the past 6 months and I'd like to let the members know that if they wish to have a club jacket or some other item with a club logo on it to wear to the cruises and shows, they can select the jacket, shirt, or cap of their choice and take it to the Glenwood Shirt Shop. Tell them you are with the Valley Cruisers and they will put the logo on the item, the club will pay for the logo to be placed on one item. If you have questions let me know.

JERRY AND BRENDA TO VISIT:

Jerry and Brenda Garner are planning to be in Glenwood on June 21, I am going to try to get members together to meet them for dinner that evening. If you would like to join us for dinner, please call me and I'll give you information on times and places. My number is 970-945-1008. Also we want to congratulate them for winning 1
st place at the second show they attended in Brownsboro, TX.

It looks like summer has finally arrived and with it many
chances to get the cars out and cruise and go to shows etc. I hope all of you are able to get out and enjoy the cars this summer. As you can see from this newsletter, we'll be busy locally and the car show schedule continues to grow.

As always, if you know of any shows that I do not have on the list that you would like to see added please let me know.

If you want a new picture of your car, please bring it to the BBQ. Otherwise we'll use the picture we already have on file. The address is 6025 County Road 233 on the right side.

MOAB CAR SHOW - ANOTHER SUCCESS:
Last weekend many of our members attended the Moab Car Show, this was a great way to kick off the season. There were about 500 cars in the show and it seemed the cruises had more people than ever. The weather was somewhat cool, but great compared to what was going on at home! Many of us met together for dining out, visiting and having a great time! One of the highlights of the show was that Cliff was finally sold his ranchero! Congratulations to Angie and him! His patience paid off. The people who bought it live in Moab so hopefully we will see it at the show next year.

RIFLE RENDEZVOUS CAR SHOW:
The Rifle Rendezvous car show will take place in Rifle on Saturday, May 14, 2011. The show will start at 10:00 a.m. On 3
rd street just off Railroad Ave. in downtown Rifle. Please call Brook Loving at 309-1872 for more information on the show . Hopefully we can get as many of our members there as possible. It would be nice to see a good representation from the club. I know I mentioned this show in the past, however this is the first real information I have gotten on it. Sorry for the late timing of this.
CECIL AND BETTY WIN AT THE TAMMY ALLEN SHOW:
Congratulations to Cecil and Betty! Their '57 Ford Retractable was awarded a 2
nd place in the category of classic cruiser at the high end Tammy Allen Car Show in Grand Junction.

CAR SHOW UPDATE:
Our car show is coming along very well. I am including a copy of the donation form for each of you to use and make copies as needed, it would be great if each member could get one donation for the trophys. The donation amount per award is $50.00 and every donator will have their named displayed on the award and on a board at the show. The first part of June we will need people to hang posters in their areas for the show. Please let your friends know our reason for moving the car show out of Carbondale. I've been getting many questions about that lately. With everyone's help we'll make the Grand River Classic Car Show a success!!

REDSTONE RALLY:
At our last meeting the club members voted to donate for a place at the Redstone Rally. We are going to have an area to set up for our cars at the Hightower in Redstone. I hope you'll give serious consideration to bringing your cars to this show. The club has already paid for the spaces and it would be a shame if we didn't fill them. The cars will be on display Saturday June 25, 2011. This is a good time to get the word out about our club and maybe to recruit some new members.

MONTROSE AND GYPSUM CAR SHOWS:
As you may already know, unfortunately, the Montrose Car Show and The Gypsum Car Show are on the same day. Many of our members usually attend both shows. I'ld like to ask anyone who isn't going to Montrose to try and make it to the Gypsum Show. As you may know the show is sponsored by Big Steve's Towing. He is one of our major sponsors, also, and I believe we need to show our support.  I'm not asking you not to go to Montrose, I am asking only if you don't have plans for the weekend to try to make the Gypsum show. They're BOTH great car shows!

UPDATED CAR SHOW EVENTS:
Please check the car show list, I have added several more shows on
it for this month. I hope the list is helpful for you to plan which shows you may want to go to. As always, please let me know of any shows you'ld like to see included on the list.
